I started reading this one whilst on holiday and got lost in it, even though I knew it was trash- the best possible trash. I was really unconvinced by the new protagonist at first, and underwhelmed by the first person voice- both characters (the previous protagonist of the series, America, was her mother) were almost identical in voice, and there was no contrast at all, except perhaps that her daughter came across as almost... Unlikeable.

In the first book I could be convinced of America's struggles, in this book the main character came off as arrogant, which, I suppose, was the intention. The two gay characters in this book were fairly stereotypical, in that they were both polite (upper class??) fashionistas. The non-intersectional feminism is strong in this one. Still more (textually supported!) lgbt rep than Rowling managed, so you get credit for that, Cass.

The treatment of one of the suitors in the text was also questionable- the themes of class in this book are handled very clumsily, and that goes for descriptions of race, too.
