Honestly don’t blame Eadlyn for being so anti-marriage lol

I would also want to start an uprising if my next queen was going to be Eadlyn. My god that girl is the worst. I enjoyed the tender moments with the guys and getting a glimpse at how America and Maxon’s love had aged. But mostly I am disappointed that two of my favorite characters raised someone like Eadlyn.

"I'm not sure if fate or destiny is real. But I can tell you that sometimes the very thing you've been hoping for will walk through the door, determined to fend you off. And still, somehow, you will find that you are enough."

Another Selection is around the corner and this time it’s for Maxon and America’s daughter, Princess Eadlyn. She’s not interested in love and marriage and is convinced that she can be a great queen and rule on her own. She needs no man. But the country is in a state of unrest after abolishing the castes and her parents ask her to go through the Selection to distract the public. Princess Eadlyn is an interesting character but has some very frustrating characteristics, such as acting very entitled.
"I was furious with myself for not getting the last word."
I don’t know if she will end up with a partner when the Selection is finished, but so far she’s learning a lot about herself and how to see love as a strength and not as a weakness. I really enjoy her witty interactions with Kile. I love how he can be upfront and honest to her. I also enjoyed her kind interactions with Henri and Erik.

The abolishing of the castes and its aftermath resembles the reality. Take a look at India for example. There are no castes anymore, but it is too difficult to erase it entirely. People tend to hold on to it. It was interesting to see the Selection from a different POV and to see how the future unfolds after ‘The One’. It’s very easy and light to read. I finished it in two days and immediately ordered the other two books: ‘The Crown’ and ‘Happily Ever After’. Although I do wonder if this book was really necessary. I would also have been okay if the series ended with ‘The One’ and ‘Happily Ever After’.

Anyway, I’m curious to see how this story will continue.

I absolutely love this series, but this is not my favorite. Eadlyn is absolutely insufferable and so self centered she drives me crazy! I hope that she is able to learn something about herself and grow in the next book. I liked most of the boys in the selection more than I liked her.

I really tried to like this book. I really do. I liked to see America and Maxon grown up together and having 4 amazing children. It was interesting to also see Marlee and Lucy and Aspen and May. I love how they managed to improve society. I love a lot about this but one huge problem made me rate this 3 stars: main character. I can't explain how annoying she is. That is it. You have to read it yourself to understand what I mean because I can't explain it all in this little review.

I really enjoyed the first 3 books of the selection and I like the twist of a female lead selection however this book feels a bit like a long prologue for the next book in the series (The Crown). Since the book is so slow paced the ending felt rushed
since what I would perceive as the climax of the story happens in the last chapter when Queen America suffers a heart attack and Eadlyn’s brother, Ahren elopes with the French princess, Camille.

I think this surprise ending would have worked if there were more moments in The Heir that eluded to the ending. There were some details from the original trilogy that could have clued us in however they weren’t large enough in America’s original story for me to remember them now.

Although the book is plot driven I do enjoy that the protagonist, Eadlyn is called on her personality flaws. Since she is a princess she is the type to put comfort before everything else so it’s good to see that she is questioned by the people closest to her in her life. Although she isn’t the most loveable character her imperfections give her room to improve as a person in the next book. Some of my favourite characters that I would consider loveable are Kile Woodwork, Henri Jaakoppi, Neena the maid, Ahren Schreave, Kaden Schreave and Fox Wesley.

Overall, I did enjoy the story. It’s not my favourite out of the selection series (The One is my favourite😉) however I’m still excited to finish the series!
