What the fuck. I can't even. Oh my god.
First, the character development of Eadlyn deserves five gold stars. Because I hated the bitch at first. And the ending oh my god the book and kile and maxamerica

This book was slow to grab my interest, but by the end I was as fully invested as I had ever been in the first three. The princess is not nearly as likable a narrator as her mother was, but she grew on me as the story progressed and as she opened herself up to the boys.

At first I really hated Eadlyn. She was whiny, spoiled and just plain annoying. I decided to push through anyways, and she started to grow on me. I really liked how a lot of my favourite characters from the first "series" were here and we got to see what happened to them.
I'm also rooting for a couple of the guys. What I really would like is for her to say screw the Selection and get with Erik. I somehow don't see that happening, but it's what I want.

As a new Selection begins, will Eadlyn stay cold towards those selected? Or will she be able to open her heart to love?
**Please be aware of possible spoilers if you have not read the first three books in The Selection Series**
For the first time in Illéa's history a female is in line for the throne. Eadlyn Schreave is determined to be a strong leader and Queen, and she will do it without a husband. But when the country begins to show signs of unrest, her parents are desperate for a distraction until they can come up with a solution. What better way to deter the citizen's attention than by holding another Selection. This time, with a female Selector. Eadlyn has grown up listening to stories about her parents fairy tale romance, but she is positive that won't happen for her. She is determined to make it through the Selection without losing her heart. But could her impression of these boys as they let her into their hearts? Will she learn how to be vulnerable with those she cares about? Or will she hold her resolve and remain the cold, hard princess her people see her as?
“You can be brave and still be feminine. You can lead and still love flowers. Most importantly, you can be queen and still be a bride.” - The Heir
Have you ever gotten to the end of a series and thought..."Well what happens next?" Most of the time we are left to imagine the continuation on our own. I am happy to tell you that in The Selection Series, that is not the case.
The Heir takes place 20 years after the end of The One. King Maxon and Queen America have brought many changes to Illéa, but the story doesn't end there. Eadlyn is their first born and heir to the throne. She wants to be strong. But she does not how to use her strength while remaining tender. Showing vulnerability feels like a weakness. She is terrified of being a failure. As the book progresses she recognizes that this is not who she wants to be. I believe that in the next book, The Crown, we will see her progression and maturity into a strong yet sensitive leader. There seems to be more kissing in this book than the previous ones. The passion does get a little heated. Eadlyn is confused about her feelings towards the boys. She is determined not to lose her heart to them, but uses the physical aspect to distract herself from the stress of the whole thing. While I am not in complete agreement with the method she is going about things, I do not find it wholly unnecessary for her character. Eadlyn is on a tough journey of learning who she is, as a girl, and as the future Queen.
