I just did a long Instagram post waxing lyrical about this book so it feels a little repetitive but here it is anyway.

My little guy (Codename: Moongazer) is besotted with the moon an stars. It's not through anything we did. He just one day saw this big shiny thing in the sky (and many little shiny things too) and once we gave him the words for it (he was only 15 months at the time), it was like his whole world expanded. It's filled us adults with renewed wonder at universe too which is pretty cool. To foster this current love, we have been filling his shelves with books about stars and about the moon... and boy are there many out there! My favourite by far is this one. Margaret and the Moon is all about Margaret Hamilton - a MIT graduate, pioneer of the field of software engineering and computer programming and a hero of the Apollo moon landing. Her code was directly responsible for the spacecraft landing safely on the moon and it is only in recent years that her name has become so widely known. What else can we expect from our patriarchy? In any case, this book fills me with hope and admiration. It is beautifully illustrated and has so much going on that even if you have a 20 month old, you can be sure that they will be staring at the pictures and listening to the story completely captivated.

Loved the story and the illustrations but the font made the text really hard to read, even as an experienced reader. I imagine it being more difficult for new readers, unfortunately.

This is amazing!! Why did I not learn about Margaret Hamilton in school? Why is she ignored in the landing Apollo 11, when she saved the day?! Such an important book. Give this to everyone! Read for Info Books for Youth for grad school.

Before Margaret saved the first lunar landing she programmed computers to track airplanes and to predict the weather. She also would become the director of software programming for the Apollo. In 2016 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.

I wanted to like this more than I did. The writing was a bit off, especially for when Margaret was growing up. And the art was just okay, though I was happy to see the artist illustrating a children's book. The historical note was better.
