Wow, what a captivating yet disturbing thriller. This book will definitely ruffle some feathers. I couldn’t stop listening as I continuously wanted to know what would happen next. Very interesting. The ending is left to your imagination of what happens next.
Graphic: Rape, Slavery, Colonisation
It was a five star concept with a 3 star ending. It just was wrapped up to quickly and unanswered.
This is an interesting premise, but I found the writing amateurish. The characters were oddly underdeveloped, but over explained. It felt like it could use a serious edit session and another round of re-writes.
Really interesting concept and quite a page turner. I give it 3 stars because of writing (lots of cliches) and the ending (wrapped up too neatly). This book had a lot of potential to explore black racial identity, but I think it fell short of that. I’m not dinging it stars for that because the book is a thriller and not many thrillers achieve a sophisticated social justice message.

This was a very interesting read for me. I don't normally read thrillers and for that reason found the story line intriguing. Another book club reading, still not completed sure how I feel about it but worth three stars, at least.

There were parts of this book that were thought provoking and very uncomfortable. I really love the premise of the book (that feels weird to say), but it needed to be more fleshed out for me. If this super secret and dangerous thing were happening, I think they’d have done much more vetting of new members - just a few casual meetings isn’t enough. I’d also have liked to see more proof of the dr’s knowledge and an explanation of the financials of it all.
I won’t soon forget this book, but I will also long wish I had more answers.

More like a 3.4. Certainly one of the more radical storylines I have come across. A few concepts, the DNA testing aspect especially, seemed a little contrived but this was a definite page turner.
I could not put this down! Very creative and one of the best books I’ve read in awhile.
