This book was a quick read. A good read.

My heart and my mind are battling with what I should be feeling and how to process this book right now, which I guess is a sign of a decent read.

This book was a page turner and had some definite “issues” with getting/seeking revenge, having morals and knowing yourself. It definitely made me think. It made me wonder what would myself or my husband do had we been in that same situation.

I wanted more development and a little more closure, but I wasn’t disappointed in this book, just slightly annoyed with it.

Thriller - Suspense - Crazy.

Right away the book drew me in with up and coming lawyer, Martin Grey, and his win on a high profile case against another successful lawyer. When Martin is invited into the inner circle of this successful black men, it's like a dream come true. A dream turned nightmare when Martin realizes this is more than guys who are helping each other. 40 acres is a secret compound with slaves, slaves that are white, not black. And this is modern day, not back in the day. When Martin finds out he's disgusted and is in too deep. Will he make it out alive and home to his wife who was suspicious before he left?

You'll have to read and see, but let me say this, women's intuition....

*I was given a copy from NetGalley*

This is a damn good story! The storyline is brilliant, if I must say so myself. Reading this book was just what I needed. It’s unique, considering what’s out now. I must admit, however, that I had to adjust to the author’s style. Smith’s style is straight to the point, which was different from what I am used to. Initially, I thought the writing was a bit cold but later on liked and appreciated the writing style. After all, I couldn’t stop reading this! It’s full of suspense, as I often held my breath and was somewhat scared of what I would read on that next page.

Conversely, I didn’t like exactly how it ended. I won’t say anything further about that because I don’t want to spoil it.

In all, if you didn’t realize this by now, I think this is a very good book! If you are looking for something different, check this out. I’ll be real here, this book might make some folks mad. However, I can see this being a great movie.

Martin Grey is an up and coming attorney and he gets the chance of a lifetime to meet and become friends with a prominent attorney. He enters a whole new world and it seems like this is everything he has dreamed of! Until he realizes he is now being initiated into a secret society...

I found the premise to the book to be so interesting and it was really one of those things I's wondered about before. The book started off great and I found it hard to put down! But after a while, I felt like it as going on and on and the ending felt rushed to me. I understand the author might have wanted us to come to our own decisions as to what happened, but I found myself feeling unsatisfied.

Overall I enjoyed the book and I plan on reading more from Mr. Smith!

dark emotional mysterious

It was a good read. Nicely paced.
The story raises quite a few moral questions, the biggest one is will two wrongs make everything right? The end was exactly how I wanted it to be, yet it wasn't predictable and still offered a surprise or two.

Story A+. Writing C-

The premise for this book is excellent. Sadly, however, it’s written at a 4th grade level, and even that might be generous.

Martin got on my nerves.

Premise? Brilliant. Execution? The reason for three and not 5 stars.
