The Burning Shadow is the second book in the spin-off series, I highly recommend you read the Lux series before starting with The Darkest Star and The Burning Shadow to get a full understanding of the series.
The Lux series has always been my favourite series by Jennifer L Armentrout so I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next addition. When I started reading The Burning Shadow, it did take me a while to get into it. I found the beginning a little slow but as with all Jen books once that action starts you are fully immersed in the book and you cannot put it down and that's exactly what happened with this book.
Evie as a character I found a little annoying in this book, I don't want to spoil it for anyone but I found her trying to work out who she was really tiresome.
I absolutely adored Luc's character with his cheesy one liners and random gifts to Evie, always gave me a little chuckle. I loved seeing the return of most of the original characters too, even if it was only for a little bit.
There was a few twists and turns in this book that keeps you on your toes and guessing right up until the end when you are left jaw hanging open with the great reveal. This left me desperate to read the next edition to the book, its going to be a long year waiting for it.

Evie is still reeling from the bombshell that was dropped on her in the last book. Turns out, her name isn’t Evie, it’s Nadia. And the gorgeous, violet-eyed Origin named Luc is actually one of her oldest friends and loves. But, she doesn’t remember any of this.
In this book, Evie is struggling with who she is and who she was. She’s also trying to figure out if Luc only cares about her because she is Nadia or because of who she is now---whoever that is…. yeahhhh, things are a little complicated.
Not to mention, a lot of people are becoming anti-Luxen. There’s a flu-like virus going around killing humans, and the government says it’s because of the Luxen. Evie and her friends know this is false, but they’re fighting an uphill battle. It’s hard to make close-minded people see the truth when they refuse to see anything but what they want to see. Armentrout does a tremendous job of depicting just how damaging prejudice is to society. The treatment of the Luxen is very relevant and relatable to events that happen in our society in this day and age.
I don’t want to say too much because a lot happens in this book. If you haven’t noticed, this beauty is much longer than The Darkest Star. Buckle up, settle in, and prepare for an adventure with our favorite crew: Evie, Luc, Heidi, Zoe, Grayson, Kent, and more. Also, if you’ve read the Lux series expect some cameos from your favorite Luxen, hybrids, and Origins.

Meine Meinung
Den ersten Band "Revenge" habe ich richtig durch gesuchtet. Deshalb habe ich den zweiten Band gleich beim Erscheinungstermin geholt. Aber ich das Buch erst jetzt gelesen.
Leider bin ich nicht sofort in die Handlung gedanklich rein gekommen. Das hat mir selbst gewundert. Normal bin ich bei den Büchern von Jennifer L. Armentrout immer ca. ab den dritten Kapiteln sofort in der Handlung drinnen. Ok ich wusste schon noch um was im ersten Band gegangen ist aber irgendwie doch nicht.
Das heißt nicht, dass mir die Handlung nicht gefallen hat. Die Handlung hat mir schon gut gefallen. Aber es hat lange gedauert das es spannend wird. Die richtige Spannung ist erst am Schluss gekommen. Da konnte ich das Buch gar nicht aus der Hand legen. Oder kann gut sein es das es an den Daemon legen ist. Der Daemon ist der männliche Protagonist von der Haupt Reihe "Obsidian". Seitdem er wieder dabei ist, ist die Handlung um ca. 50 % besser geworden.
Ok ich bin immer noch Daemon Fan.
Ich hätte mir gewünscht das es von Evies und Lucs Sichtweise abwechselnd die Handlung erzählt wird.
Ich finde das man den Luc eigentlich einfach mögen sollte. Ok auf ersten Anblick wirkt er einfach "Alles besser Wisser". Er hat bei allen gleich eine frech Antwort parat. Aber er ist einer der Mensch / Lebenwesen bereit ist für die andere Hilfe zu sein. Und versucht denen zu helfen. Da kann man ihm einfach nur mögen. Wenn er einem an sich heran lässt. Ist er einer den wirklich durch die Höhle geht. Um den Menschen irgendwie zu retten.
Bei der ersten Hälfte des Buch hat mir die Evie nicht so gut gefallen. Sie hat lange gebraucht sie sich ein versteht wer sie ist. Nein besser sagt wer sie sein will. Sobald sie das abgehakt hat. Gefällt sie mir viel besser.
Mein Fazit
Obwohl der zweite Band in die Länge gezogen ist, hat er mir schon gut gefallen. Der Cliffhanger am Ende ist richtig fies am liebsten würde ich den dritten Band lesen. Weil der zweite Band richtig spannend geworden ist.

I really loved this book. I will say Luc is VERY similar to daemon. I wish he had a more unique personality because I still remember his as an asshole
Little kid with a ton of power. But I liked the storyline and plot. But I went into This book thinking it was a duology and then I read and read and I realize there’s no way. Well then that cliff hanger. The one thing I disliked about this book was the ending. I feel like there were better places to end the book. But I love the luxen and this world so I will be reading on.

Endlich weiter lesen wie es mit Luc und Evie weiter geht. Dabei war dieser Band regelrecht spannend gewesen. Mitschüler, die sich merkwürdig verhalten. Angebliche Alienmorde und vieles weiteres. Und die vielen losen Fäden sind immer mehr zu einem geworden.
Die Autorin hat sich wieder einiges einfallen lassen. Grad das was es mit Evie auf sich hat und wie die aktuellen Ereignisse mit ihr zusammenhängen. Denn der Gedanken der mir beim lesen kam, kam am nicht das ran, was die Auflösung war. So richtig begreifen wie das genau möglich sein kann wird man wohl erst im nächsten Band erfahren.
Die beiden Charaktere Evie und Luc sind gut dargestellt, vor allem bekommt man von Luc ein besseres Bild. Das Evie aber erst nicht so ganz weiß ob er Evie mag oder das Mädchen, das sie einst war, ist hier sehr realistisch wieder gegeben. Evie muss ganz schön tapfer sein, denn ihr Leben wird hier jetzt so richtig auf dem Kopf gestellt.
leider musste man sich wie aus dem nichts von einen Nebencharakter verabschieden, leider war es auch noch einer denn ich total mochte. Mein Mund stand bei der Szene geradezu offen, da ich einfach nicht fassen konnte was ich da lese. Es hat mich sehr traurig gemacht das ausgerechnet dieser Charakter nicht mehr dabei ist.
Gefreut hat es mich das man alte Bekannte wie Daemon, Kate, Archer, Dee und viele andere trifft und bin gespannt in wie fern sie im nächsten Band das Abenteuer mit Evie und Luc bestehen. Denn die Bedrohung hat ein großes Ausmaß an alle.

Luc è stato un personaggio che sin dalla Lux Series mi ha incuriosita, la sua sfacciataggine, il suo velo di mistero che lo circonda. Sono felice, come sempre, che l’Armentrout ha dedicato questa serie a lui.
In questo secondo volume, Evie deve capire chi è davvero, se Nadia o Evie. Le cose si complicano andando avanti, in pieno stile zia Jen, questo dilemma interiore è stato davvero interessante.⠀
Luc, con le sue parole, le sue battute, le sue azioni, dimostrerà che ci tiene davvero ad Evie ed è disposto a tutto pur di dimostrare che lei è la ragazza che vuole e che è disposto a tutto per difenderla e renderla felice.
La storia si ripete un po', ma su questa cosa posso benissimo sorvolare. Non rinuncerò mai a leggere i suoi libri, acquisto tutto di lei ad occhi chiusi.
Mi piace come sta prendendo la piega della storia e non vedo l’ora di leggere il terzo volume, The Brightest Night.
