Night Spinner was such a pleasant surprise. It intrigued me from the beginning and got better and better as the book went on. The world-building was wonderful, there were rich magic and religions that were very well explained.
Enebish was a great character. Often times when the story is told from a main character point of view, it can get annoying. Enebish was rightfully subdued at the beginning of the book, but it was wonderful to see her grow throughout the book. The story was full of twists and turns and I have to admit that while one I figured out early on, there were quite a few others that took me by surprise. This book was fast-paced, especially in the second half. Overall, the plot was extremely interesting and easily kept my attention from beginning to end.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I really loved this book so much I loved the story and the characters so much. I loved the characters especially En and Serik En for her willingness to believe in what is right and the fact she holds on to her beliefs and her love for Serick. I loved Serik for how he would do absolutely anything for En he would go above and beyond if it meant he would save En. I loved the plot it starts out with En being imprisoned for doing something heinous with her being treated horribly with only Serick to stand up for her the story moves on to her going to do the mission of catching a rebel leader learning some things going against the kingdom she is part of I just really loved this book I am really looking forward to the sequel.

A unique context of magic with interesting characters.
WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???
This book is unbelievable. The ride it took me in!
It was so, SO subtle in the starts, hinting an almost predictable plot and then, it suddenly BLOWS UP INTO SOMETHING NO ONE EXPECTED.
The betrayals in this book gives me such chills, everyone is sus, but we have to trust SOMEONE!
I want the second book so baddd, may 4thhh.
The storyline is so unique, and no one, absolutely NO ONE, can predict how this book ends.
The characterization is unlike anything I have seen, and this book is absolute. That's it. MIC DROP.

When I heard that Night Spinner was a loose retelling of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, I knew I had to read it!
Very enjoyable! Can't wait for book 2!

I... honestly don't know how to rate this book...
See, this was barely a 2.5-star read up until about 80%.
It wasn't even a bad book, I just didn't care at all. I didn't connect to any characters and I did not really care for the whole worldbuilding. The idea was great; I liked the way the Kalima powers worked (and how they weren't endless, like magic in other books often is), I just did not care about the people.
Enebish is a cool main character, I guess. Once a powerful soldier, now called Enebish the Destroyer (a dope nickname, tbh), she bides her time at this monestary. I do not know why everyone thought it was a good idea to let someone with that nickname walk freely among a bunch of monks (even when her superpowers are shut off, she still is a trained soldier), but plot gotta plot, I guess. I also think the author forgot at times that En is supposed to be phyically handicapped due to battle scars. At first, she limps everywhere, but later on she runs places without any staggering.
I did not care for the plot until sh*t really went down late in the second half, when all the strings came together. If the whole book had been written like those last 20%, this would've been a 4.5 star book.
But unfortunately, the rest was not that.
A 3 star rating it is.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC!

I absolutely loved this book!
It drew me in from the first page, and had me until the very end. Needless to say, I'm happy it has a little one next to the title because I need more!
Thorley is such a great writer. Her prose are lyrical and beautiful; she sets the scene and brings it to life before your eyes. The characters she created are full of life, with emotions and drives that build a solid foundation for a story.
I have never read The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but I have seen the Disney movie. Even with that knowledge, I believe Thorley does a great job of weaving the old with the new and creating a story that stands apart from any kind of source material.
There were enough twists and turns to keep me on my feet, and just a touch of romance to sate my need for love. I felt connected to the characters and found myself rooting for them until I hated them. I really liked that my inklings weren't all founded while some of them were, and I enjoyed the reveals as they came.
Overall, this was such a great read and I can't wait for more Enebish!

I really found this book to be a fun read, especially for someone who was in a big reading slump for months. I don’t have too strong an opinion on this book except for that I liked it, but it felt like the kind I’ve read many times.
Pros:
+ Enebish is a cool main character
+ The second half of the book is where things go down and it’s pretty great
+ I like the familiarity with the magic system
Cons:
- Again, it feels a bit too reminiscent of other YA fantasies I’ve read
- I wish I knew more about the world but I do think the sequel (or sequels?) will develop on that
- Some parts felt very repetitive, especially Enebish’s thoughts. Like it’s fine if it’s a little repetitive but i feel like i’ve heard the same thoughts throughout the entire book until the last section
I’m looking forward to reading the next book! As I have not read the Hunchback if Notre Dame, I don’t think I’d be able to make the connections with that book. But I’m definitely curious to look into it now!

Dnf. I can't say I don't like YA books because most of my favorites are. But when they read like a 21 year old is 12 I just can't keep going. I feel like with just a few chapters I already know how this will end. I know me not finishing isn't fair to the author or the review but I need something to keep me going. A secret twist, a future death I'll regret, I dunno something.
So I began to get annoyed with "The old me would have burned them all to ashes, but the me now is a wimp and uninteresting". The bad boy showed up, we know she is going to fall for, she is a little broken now I'm going to guess she gets revitalized. Meh don't care to find out. Couldn't connect with the characters. Wasn't any good world building. Done.
