this was likely more a 3.5 star but because it kept be me reading and the I felt my tension rise a number of times I went with 4 instead of 3. Connelly makes Ballard believable and has a decent handle on the tension with dealing with a male dominated world. I enjoy his ability to work in current events without going overboard or pushing an agenda. Bosch is dependable and reliable Bosch and these books are some that I can depend on to read a good story and escape to LA for a short time.

3.75/5 rounded up to 4. This reads like an episode of Law and Order and felt very nostalgic. I enjoyed it, and reading about each of their separate cases and the story went on. Wasn't completely satisfied with how it was tied up at the end. It felt like it moved slow but at the same time tied up too quickly

Renee Ballard is an LAPD detective on permanent nightshift. She teams up with semi-retired veteran detective Harry Bosch to solve the cold case of Daisy Clayton's murder 9 years previously.

I've read many of the titles featuring Bosch and stopped because they were getting a bit samey. So returning to the series after a break of several years, i was pleasantly surprised ow much I enjoyed it. I am a fan of the police procedural and Michael Connolly is a great writer of this genre. It's got excitement and adventure, sleuthing, heartbreak, lowlifers, strong female lead. It's a really good book - you know what you are expecting and it delivers more.
