I was simultaneously impressed with this book and wanted it to be over. The premise is fascinating and like good fantasy makes you ask hard questions about society and how far you would go to save the world. In this case it's the literal world - the trees and all living things rather than a subset of humanity.

I love Sequoia and the Giant redwoods and they made for a great setting.

Jumped between too many timelines and didn't feel cohesive. We also spend a lot of time taking about how Syrah is such a strong woman whose worked against misogyny/et al to get where she is and one mistake and she decides to quit. That seemed so against the character being built for us that I couldn't wrap my head around it.
