It's a book 1 of 2. It is a setup book. I'm an impatient person and like books that move faster. I won't get to the good stuff until book 2.
can’t wait to tell the book club girlies how i hated this

Canopy Keepers is a slow-burning, emotional fantasy that quietly wraps around you like moss on an ancient tree. It opens with deep loss, but what follows is a story of healing, legacy, and the quiet magic that lives in nature and ancestry. The world-building is rich and thoughtful, and while the pacing takes its time, the payoff is worth it.
The characters feel grounded and real, especially the Black leads who exist beyond stereotypes — complex, powerful, and human. And let’s be honest… Ochai may have had a short appearance, but he left a lasting impression (yes, I am petitioning for a spin-off).
Perfect for readers looking to gently ease back into books, this one made me slow down, reflect, and breathe deep. 4 stars from me — soft, mystical, and beautifully rooted.
Moderate: Grief, Death of parent, Fire/Fire injury
Minor: Violence

I really liked this book overall. I love the science, the devotion to the forest, and the questions it poses. I am glad I read it. The pace was a bit off for me personally, but after learning it’s part 1 of a series it makes a bit more sense that there’s time to stretch some things out a bit!
