“Are You Ready?” by Kaylee Ryan is the third book in her contemporary romance series, Everlasting Ink, and it’s a slow burn, single mom romance starring main characters Forrest and Briar that I absolutely adored!

Briar has been through way too much pain in her short life, and as a result, she has walls that are almost impossible to get past. But Forrest has made it his mission to prove to Briar that he’s not going anywhere, and that he can be trusted not only with her heart, but with the hearts of her twin daughters, River and Rayne, as well.

Speaking of Forrest, I loved how completely and utterly swoony he was. He was so protective of both Briar and her daughters, and he knew from the very beginning that Briar, River, and Rayne were a package deal, and he not only accepted that but embraced it. He was so gentle and kindhearted, which is what Briar needed after what happened in her past.

I’ve been impressed with everything I’ve read by Kaylee Ryan so far, and I’m really happy to have discovered her as an author! I’m loving the Everlasting Ink series, and I can’t wait to read the next one. All in all, this was absolutely a 5 star read for me!

Forrest and Briar

I've been waiting for his book and it did not disappoint. Forrest IMO is looking for his HEA. He has been taking care if his sister for long that it is his time. He meets Briar and her twin daughters. He is smitten from the moment he meats them. Briar has been through a lot and unsure of how things are going. Forrest helps her figure it out. I absolutely loved the little things he did for them.

I’m surprised this book is rated as high as it is. Nothing really happens. There’s no conflict. There is no intrigue. Yes that MMC seems perfect, but no one‘s actually perfect there has to be some flaws. The kids are cute and I liked that they were in a lot of scenes and not just written off to the side.

The age gap is too much, given her lack of life experience and how much insta-love the mmc falls in. The whole friend group just seems like copy/pastes assuming all the guys are the same age and all the girls are all around the same. Again, it’s just too perfect and nothing is realistic.

By the end I was doing major skimming once it because obvious that there would be no actual point of conflict.

I was not ready for Briar’s truth. This book destroyed me. The prologue broke me and I was so invested in Briar’s story. She was dealt some hard blows but with an indomitable inner strength and her sister by her side, she has survived the hardships while embracing the joy that is embodied in her adorable daughters. Forrest, with his patience, understanding, gentle hand and steadfastness buoys her to move beyond surviving to thriving. Briar’s truth wrecked me but her journey towards healing did the same for a part of me. The weighty topic was deftly handled with grace and compassion. I hope Brogan gets her own story in a future book. Emerson and Monroe are their sweet selves and I love how they embraced Briar and Brogan with friendship and encompassed them in their family. The interactions with the adorable little girls and the gorgeous, tattooed teddy bears were heart melting. “My heart didn’t even see him coming.” Maybe not, Briar, but you definitely deserve him.

A solid 4.5 stars. I cried. These sweet little girls got to me.

Forrest was an incredible brother to Emerson and basically raised her. He was made to be a father and so ready to find his person after witnessing Emerson and Monroe and his best friends fall in love. When he met Briar, it felt like a slow motion movie moment. He fell so hard, so fast, and so thoroughly with Briar, River, and Rayne. It was the sweetest thing seeing him become a girl dad. And though it took a while for Briar to open up to him, he had the patience of a saint and never pushed her and always let her take the lead.

Yes. 100% yes. Are You Ready? Is one of the books I knew I’d love but I didn’t realize I needed this story. Pure perfection.

Forrest as a girl dad was not on my 2024 bingo card but please give me more of that! Forrest was perfect with River and Rayne. And the literal patience he had for Briar was beautiful. Forrest is a walking green flag and the world needs more of him.
