I did like this. I really do not enjoy getting the bad guy's perspective, totally just...ugh, I don't want it, so yeah, those parts I did not enjoy.
I think there is a bit of suspension of disbelief. Sort of like in some cozy mysteries where someone with no training decides they are going to become super sleuth and do dangerous, stupid things in the name of finder the killer...I find that kind of stuff...annoying when not in a cozy mystery.
This had more "romance" than I remember from the other novels, but that was okay. I liked Luke a lot. He had some issues, but I did really like him.

Page turning romantic suspense!

This is this first book I've read by Melinda Leigh and I really enjoyed it! It is the third book in a series but it can be read as a stand alone. Brooke stops a crime and attract the killers attention. Luke is her brother best friend and has always had a secret crush on Brooke. He agrees to watch out for Brooke even tho he's recovering from a recent violent event that's left him with physical and emotional scars. These two are both traumatized and the traumas help them relate to each other. This book has great pacing and tension. Brooke and Luke have sizzling just by chemistry. a great read for fans of romantic suspense!

Real rating is 3.5. While Brooke Davenport is actually a great heroine, I felt that her decision at the end contradicted her character. I very much loved how she was teaching self defense and the mention of Krav Maga was actually perfect as it showed that Ms. Leigh really knew her way in the self-defense world (the fact that I'm a Krav instructor may make me a bit biased though). I also really liked that Luke wasn't the typical hero in a romantic suspense and that he acknowledged his flaws.

The writing was so-so, more because it wasn't eloquent and poetic than because it was choppy and other adjectives used to describe bad writing. It is a part of a series, but it was definitely able to stand alone more than the preceding novels, even though those can stand alone as well. The reoccurring characters of the previous two novels weren't really present, which in truth did not bother me. I don't think I would recommend this novel to my friends just because I don't feel that this was the best romantic suspense ever, but I would recommend this series in general.

Lack of excitement or thrill. The chemistry between the MCs was dull. The police basically did no job. Big disappointment.

Lol, Luke giving the dog a bath had me laughing. If it was me, I’d take the dog to a groomer. Fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. How would you respond if your life truly depends on your next action?
