Mickey is an Expendable on an expedition to colonize the ice world of Niflheim. Whats an Expendable? Well he gets all the dangerous jobs. Need to seal a breach, send Mickey. Need to shutdown a dangerous reactor, send Mickey. Need to see it the indigenous life is hostile? SEND MICKEY!!
When he dies, they regenerate a new body and down load his memories, he's been through this 6 times so far. One Mickey 7 he's out on a mission, reported lost, presumed dead, and returns to meet Mickey 8.
This was a really great read, it's only just over 300 pages and I burned though it in a few days. I raises a lot of questions about identity and soul, immortality, are they really still humans or not, is it even really still Mickey 7 or 8 iterations on? kind of like the ship of Theseus paradox (or in the UK Triggers Broom!).
For being Sci-fi too, it's not overly technical or hard to read and it's a really fun book.
I recommend you give it a try, especially if you liked the movie 2009 Moon with Sam Rockwell.
