I saw the movie first.  I think two work together to tell a similar story, but with different focuses. The backstory in the book adds a lot of depth to the film. The commentary about the abuse of multiples, the callus disregard for Micky's life is better explored in the film. Alone either the film or book are alright. Together they tell a much more fulfilling story.

“so,” she said. “what’s dying like?” i shrugged. “like being born, only backwards.”

slowed the hell out of my reading bc i am not into sci-fi really but i did for the love of arts and watching bong joon ho's adaptation.

just zoned out of All the sci-fi bit, the finale was underwhelming and as said i am not getting into the sci-fi of it all.... the premise feels too grand for the size of the book.

i also genuinely have doubts about the philosophy of it all. like mickey, i don't know if that's still him even after multiple regenerations. his borderline suicidal tendencies, his contemplations about death. it just doesn't convince me enough in words. i found it shallow.

"i hope you know, though, that this is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.”
“isn’t that what they say about suicide?”

also i have doubts about his romance about nasha. i believe the adaptation made them more in love with each other but here it's so obvious that even mickey is doubting if he deserves the love he receives from nasha, after all his multiple versions. her reassurance isn't just enough for me, or maybe i am in no point to ask for more because then again this is a sci-fi book, not a romance one.

you shouldn’t have to watch me die more than once.

i think this just confirmed to me why i don't read non-romantic sci-fi you know. it just lacks the heart. i'm yet to find a published sci-fi that strikes the balance between heart and brain. this book got it all in the brain department: world-building, technology, jargon. but did they give mickey a heart? debatable to me. i'm yet to find a time to see the movie but i have high hopes for my boy bong joon-ho.

there’s a certain peace that comes from knowing without a doubt what’s going to happen to you. the possibility that i might survive this morning is a source of anxiety as much as it is a source of hope.

reading before seeing the movie! I really liked this one! interesting concept, likable characters, pretty engaging overall. the only negative is that it felt short, I wanted more! good thing there’s a sequel
