A bit of a letdown for me. Such a cool premise but a lackluster execution :(

This was really good sci-fi. It asks some really interesting questions about what exactly is cloning, the ethics of colonialism, and sense of self.

i (like many others, i'm sure) bought a copy of this book promptly after seeing the movie. i tried to keep the two separate in my head in order to have an authentic experience reading without critiquing the story too heavily, but i found myself comparing them anyway. i found that the book and the movie are both enjoyable as their own pieces of media, but am quite partial to the way that mickey is presented in the book. ashton is excellent at world building and establishing a history within the confines of his universe, and in this book has introduced me to characters that are so easy to empathize with. i really appreciate that ashton was diligent about keeping the stakes in mind at all times, as it made everything that happened feel important and relevant to the story he was telling. in short: if you liked the movie, you'll probably love the book despite/for their discrepancies. cannot wait to start antimatter blues!
