While the writing in this book was very comforting and never failed to make me smile, this collection of (very) short stories doesn’t make Rick justice. I feel like this format does not really suit him, the stories were weak in terms of plot and characterization which is never the case in his full length novels. However it was nice to be reunited with some characters from the Magnus Chase universe. I am always trash for Rick’s new content as he is my favourite author and this little book was kind of like a blanket on a cold fall day.

I had meant to reread the Magnus Chase series after I finished rereading PJO and the Heroes of Olympus, but I just didn’t have time in my reading schedule- so I thought reading this quick little anthology would be a good way to refresh my memory on the characters and the world. It was, and it was a short, funny read, but it was disappointing that there wasn’t a story from Magnus himself, or one of him and Alex sharing the page. Eventually I do want to revisit the Magnus Chase books again, but for now, this was a good way to get reintroduced to the characters. And even with these short story anthologies, Rick’s writing style still holds true.
I loved this book being able to read short stories from this world. Following a collection of characters that we have previously met. I was intrigued with each story and found it very interesting.
