Legitimately scary at some points! It felt like I was watching a horror movie and any time a certain character was home alone I kept thinking in my head “shit shit shit shit”
I found some parallels between this book/story and the Insidious movies (not in a cliche or copying way, just thought some things were similar)
It started off very quick and scary and hit a little bit of a lull in the middle. I took a couple days off from reading and as I hopped back in I was hooked again!
This is a great horror to read if you truly want to read something scary.
Only 4 stars because some of the elements seemed a little bit predictable and I was left hoping for a little bit more at some parts (totally subjective)
Definitely recommend!!

It was a good book overall, but I feel like some things were not given their space to be scary and powerful while others were drawn out for too much time. I think some elements of the story were added in too late to take hold and make it all come together, and the ending felt very rushed compared to the rest of the book.

Dark, sinister, twisted, morally gray characters, no happy ending.... and so so good. I'm a huge fan of Stephen King and this book had King vibes but with a fresh twist. What would you do to hide your past? How far would you go to protect what you love? Could you sacrifice your own child? A demonic entity is haunting Jack Winter, one that he almost forgot about until a car accident signals the demon's return. "I've always been here, and I'll never leave". As Jack slowly remembers his childhood and the events that led to him running away the demon continues to gain a strong hold on Jack's current family. When his youngest, Charlie, starts acting strange Jack realizes the horror of what he will have to face.
