Education can be fun!

Jeffrey Brown brings some light humor to the Stone Age. And teaches about Neanderthals, too!

(I think this book could be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.)

***Received this as an ARC from work***

I really wanted to like this book, and if I was a kid I might have. The story seemed jumbled and rushed. I am interested in seeing the final artwork though. About half of the art was not finalized. I think Jeffrey Brown understands kids and what they like. There is a scene in the book where the sister farts and blames it on the brother that was completely unexpected, but in the eyes of a child probably hilarious. I felt that there wasn't a lot of story going on. The book is split into different parts (hunting, drawing, clothing, etc). After each subject there is a mini comic of two archeologists talking about the subject. It's a cute book, but that's about it.

This is such a cute graphic novel! Highly recommend if you’re wanting a quick read where you learn a little about Neanderthals along the way.

A fun look at cave people through the eyes of Jeffrey Brown. The parts explaining some of the science got dry, but the fictional characters were great to spend time with.

Funny and educational too. What's not to like about the latest offering from Jeffrey Brown?

Lucy and Andy are Neanderthals--and siblings, much to their eternal dismay. Andy desperately wants to go on a hunt (though he's too young and goofy). Lucy desperately wants people to listen to her (and she's usually right). It's a fun story featuring lots of elements of Neanderthal life--with two scientists jumping in between chapters to clarify the facts.

A fun comic for elementary schoolers, maybe middle schoolers. I read this from an ARC I picked up at ALA, so the art isn't final, but if you know Jeff Brown's style from the Darth Vader & Son books, you have a good sense of what this looks like.

The story that follows the daily lives of a Neanderthal family is great -- funny, interesting, informative, and unique, with an adorable very cartoonesque drawing style. Unfortunately, the structure makes it challenging to read. There is too much information at the end of each chapter and makes the reading feel long and tedious. I would have much preferred to see all of that information at the end leaving the story to shine on its own.
