This kept being almost good.
Look, a strong consistent theme is not a bad thing for a short story collection to have, but this felt a bit one note. If all the stories are going to be thematically so similar, I want some diversity in perspective and approach. Still, some of these were pretty compelling (highlights were Such a pretty face and A different beat), although several more ended just as they got interesting.

Interesting mix of stories told in a variety of ways with a through-line of female sapphic viewpoints and horrific(-adjacent) imagery.
Loved the initially confusing table of contents and the wide range of topics/ situations/ themes tackled.
Obviously liked some entries more than others and ultimately feel like there’s at least 1-2 stories for everyone in this.

This is maybe the most insane and intense book I’ve ever read and I can’t stop recommending it to everybody. It’s gay, it’s gory, it’s sexy, it’s so so so weird and I can feel it in my gut (my eyes, my throat, my bones). Some of the short stories were less crazy than the others, but for most of this collection my jaw consistently stayed on the floor. Highly recommend.
Really well-crafted book, I enjoyed the extremely diverse approaches the author chose for varying short stories. Of course, some worked better for me than others.
