Unique interesting premise that suffers from plot hole issues and people just being stupid. I was kept engaged the whole way thorugh, however
Update: Put up to 4 stars- man the world it presents really is fun

This is what I look for in horror. There's social commentary, cultural elements, paranormal elements, there is a tiny bit of humor. Experienced horror finds will probably find this on the lighter end of the spectrum as there is gore but it isn't gorey, there is body horror [in the form of injury detail] but it isn't startlingly graphic.
I would have enjoyed more exploration into the 'why' things were as there hid a ton of horror potential. This could be, and probably is, just because I don't have much in common with the main character. The audiobook is an okay performance but the repeated "Falsas promesas" felt forced and distracted me.
There is a love triangle element but the main character is not the center of the triangle with two interests vying for affection. Raquel and her best friend are vying for the affection of Charlize. It did distract from the horror of it all but it was at least a refreshing change from many other stories.

The plot and all was interesting, but I felt like there was a lot missing. There were also a lot of inconsistencies or errors or contradictions in the writing that needed another good editing pass through. That made some parts more confusing to understand. I wanted more detail in some places to really understand what was happening. Some of the pacing was also too quick.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. Sapphic horror/thriller might be my new favorite genre, and Vincent Tirado did an incredible job.

This was so much fun to read! I loved the horror/echo part of the story. It was so intriguing, creepy, and tense. This was very well-paced, and I couldn’t put it down at times. It had so much history and care when talking about difficult topics. Overall, a very interesting and fun story. My main reason for 3.5 stars is just because I’m growing out of the way that ya books are written. So many ya books have amazing plots, but I’m over the language and dialogue especially in ya books. This is just my preference, and it doesn’t mean the book is poorly written. Ya books are written differently for their audience - teens, so, of course, it’s off putting for me because I’m not the intended audience. Anyways, really good read with such a fun plot!

a fast, adventurous (and creepy) read holding the power of family, friendship, community, and spirituality at its core. Tirado weaves a heavy history of the bronx + the bronx burnings throughout the whole story and it carries the characters and readers through hell and back.
i love this book and will def read more of their lit!

This is an excellent thriller combining the way evil acts haunt places down the years (or even just neglect) and the ways we can try to fight back.
