I finished it, but wasn't super impressed. Characters were flat and it was hard to really care what was going on. Parts of the book felt very rushed. Got pretty gory at times too.

Very good, liked the plot, but also very YA with a cringey crush and "finding who you really are" undertones. Also it didn't really feel real and I didn't get lost in the scenes, like I felt removed from what was happening and sometimes things were just told and not shown very well, but that's really hard to do. And I assume the 70s history parts are true, though there wasn't an author's note about it, so I have no idea other than things I've learned about like redlining and slum lords. I definitely think a couple pages of an author 's note on the true history would've made the book a bit more impactful, but maybe the author didn't actually intend people to learn about history from the book.
