If you love horror books and a nod to the Bronx this is the one for you!

Such a great sapphic friends to lovers story with all the twists and turns of a spooky mystery. This is a very fast read. Representation and a great plot make for a book I look forward to recommending to others!☺️

Trigger warnings: gentrification, violence, gore, body horror, gun violence, racism, systemic racism.

This was a very fast paced read on audio, and I'd be curious to know if it was as fast paced on paper... I really liked the characters, and the concept of trying to save their family members by participating in a truly unsettling game was great. I loved that the game was so different in every location and was tied to a significant and traumatic event in each place.

It did feel a little repetitive at times and I'm not sure if this was just the fact that I was listening on my commute or whether it's actually the book, but there were more than a few threads that felt like they weren't QUITE as neatly wrapped up as I would have liked them to be. Also? This cover is STUNNING and does a fantastic job of capturing the feel of the story.

I had a great time with this. It was genuinely scary and funny and wonderful. This trend (?) of making gentrification = horror (in a monster sense) is fantastic. Making social issues the root of genuine monsters is great. A Slumlord as the mythical being that needed to be defeated was just really clever.

I enjoyed this a whole lot and am for sure rounding my 4.5 up! The audiobook was also just awesome!

Sapphic horror? Sign me up! Very Stranger Things-esque and a thrilling ride. I would have loved to have seen more of the relationship between Raquel and Charlize develop, but I still love them! The book was a little slow to start and things were a bit repetitive, but about halfway through it started getting more action packed and exciting as we follow the characters into the Echo.
