I've been reading Manga since I learned how to read but not until yesterday that I started to notice the amazing wonderful mangaka Naoki Urasawa. This is the first manga of him that I read and hell it is sooooo good. It's been a long time since I read such high quality one. I'm not the kind of person who into robots and mechanical stuffs but THIS sci-fi manga is truly an exception. The plot is so well-written, the characters are all amazing and real, the drawing is sophisticated. I'm so excited to read other works by him!!!
In the future, someone is killing the seven greatest robots of the world. Gesicht, the top detective in Europe, is assigned to catch the killer. The one catch is, he is one of the killer's intended victims, placing him in a race against time.

My first graphic novel! I'm aware that it's a weird choice. Consider me a reluctant reader in this medium - I just am not a visually oriented person. But, hey, futuristic robot noir is bound to keep my interest! And it did! I really adored the humanized robots, especially North No. 2, the music-loving war-hero-robo-butler. Not sure I care enough to read any further, though.
As for the format itself, I dug the world-building of the art, especially the way Urasawa sets up and break our expectations. Like the scene where the protagonist appears to be having an intimate conversation, but in the final panel is revealed to be a holo-chat. But I felt that I couldn't always follow the detail of the small action panels. I have trouble visualizing action scenes, and it seems to hold true even when it's well, already visualized for me. Natalia recommends I try something with more traditional narration next time. Sounds like a plan.

A great start to the series. Interesting worldbuilding. A lot of likable characters so far.

In a couple of hours, I'd burned through this volume; it'd that good. The art, the story--it's just... Fantastic. Undoubtedly getting the follow up volumes and of course going to be looking up MONSTER when the new printing comes out.
