There's something about a dark Gothic romance that just does it for me..and Keri Lake is just so damn talented in that regard. This story of Lucian and Isa is so rich and beautiful. I tend to get really turned off from a book with a younger heroine if she is portrayed as super immature, but Isa was not that at all. Keri found a way to perfectly balance her naiveté and intelligence so that you genuinely believe a man of Lucian's age and experience would legitimately fall for her. The twists in this were top tier--I read a lot of thrillers and can typically guess every twist in most romantic suspense stories; but a lot in this book really took me by surprise.
This was my first read from Keri Lake, and I am sold on her talent entirely--will absolutely be picking up more from her and working my way through her backlist!

This is so messed up and intense in a way that made me question my sanity for enjoying this book so much.
It's fucked up. It's not for everyone. Not a perfect book but so damn addictive. It's gritty and emotional. Heartwrenching and triggering. But so haunting, suspenseful, cleverly put together and goddamn sexy.

This is my second book by this author and while I love her writing style, the length of her books are just not for me. They either drag or her endings are too rushed. Still enjoyed it though.

Really didn't feel the romance
I enjoyed the setting quite a bit. That's what usually draws me to gothic works, they have such rich, lush, and atmospheric settings that just draw you into the world, and therefore the story. This one was no exception, but I found the romance quite lacking. I just didn't see their bond grow whatsoever. Sure he confided in her, but I didn't see the unshakeable, unbreakable bond of soulmates like I was expecting and that was really disappointing. But I'm definitely willing to try the author's other works.
