i have a bit of mixed feelings about this one. some parts had me so hooked i was at the edgy of my seat and others i was just rolling my eyes. overall a good read though!
also i really, really liked the quote ”i went in search of the villain, instead, and found him alone and in pain, living in a castle of bones. a darker version of my mother’s knight, whose armor had dents and cracks, and his hands sullied with blood.”

omg this book was something alright first of all umm i dint really get like what happened that night like she was like my friend my friend but like it hurt her to say the story so was she the friend or what like like did she get graped or what? idk but its still like sad no matter waht. but girl was so real about like ykw before the accident shes like i would be bored and its like samies. but like this book got me in a whirlwind. Like when he made the friend up like he didn't actually died like when the mom said that i was like omg like that changes everything. omg but like the maid omg she was so weird like ur an actually pedo like it was nasty. but like if the friend was dead how did the first thing happened like in teh cave like girl how did that happen. But like when they said that the friend was made up i was like so confused idk but then when they revealed the lady was real and not made up i got more confused. and like teh mom was so messed up like girl you killed ur grandchild and daughter in law what? also was the kid even his cause didnt he use a ykw and he didn't even finish i think so like how. idk but like wasn't it acaully the dads kids which makes sense idk. But like i hated the mom like she was so fed up. Also i was confused on the organization he was in like i didn't really get i and like skipped that part sm like it made no sense. the girls dad went crazy tho like that was so like i was like eomg what and when he killed all those people like what idk i didn't like the book tho it was like confusing nd like idk i dind tlike it.

This book reminded me a lot of the old Agatha Christie or Sherlock Holmes mysteries that were always filled with many characters, some guilty, some not, but all hiding something. Our sweet tortured MMC and our haunted MFC just thrown together trying to figure out who they are and what they have become. There's death, abuse, super steamy spice, murder, sadness, gloom, even torture.
I know a lot of other folks have mentioned it but serious Phantom of the Opera vibes. I love me some Keri Lake though, her writing is top notch for this genre. She does such a great job of portraying how even the darkness can be lovely and not everything has to be sunshine and rainbows to be lovely. Not everyone needs saving, some people just need to be loved exactly as they are and are just waiting for the right person who will sit with them in the darkness and love them anyways.
