Every plot point is belabored. It is drawn out and rehashed to the point that the characters look like complete idiots for not figuring it out sooner. And the characters, especially the main character, make such stupid decisions.
The first half was slow, but once it gets going it is GOING.
The story is more character-driven rather than plot driven, so if you’re not into investing into this 1200 page slice of life innkeeper story there’s no judgement here. The characters are SO good it’s worth it. The writing & descriptions are engaging, the humor is fun, the pacing could be better.
I’ll be revisiting the 2nd book come wintertime.

I listened to this on audible. I enjoyed the world building but the narrator's voice grated, it was tough to get through, and the main character is useless. Just whiney and irritating. I really wanted to like this novel as I enjoyed the interesting concepts it explores.
First few chapters are a STRUGGLE but it does grow a lot from there, good for some long moderately mindless entertainment. Everyone but the main characters are interesting and I like the world building.
Would have benefitted immensely from more aggressive editing but it's history as a web novel makes that difficult.

The narration of the audiobook is REALLY annoying, esp the MC Erin. I'm the nearly 5 hours I for through, essentially nothing happened and I can't fathom another 40+ hours of this.
