A great book that takes the math of randomness & probabilities and uses it towards the chance encounters and approaches we have in everyday life. From movies to books to life events, randomness does run our lives, and even events that are seemingly always a failure will eventually come up a success. There was some good humor, good math, and good insight into randomness, and is a must read for anyone interested in math and probabilities.

excellent read. this was well written and very entertaining on a subject that could have been boring!

Great discussion of an under-appreciated fact of life.

With popular science-level explanations of the principles of probability, Mlodinow illustrates the seemingly endless human need to find patterns, luck and divine intervention in things over which we have no control.

Spends too much time explaining concept and not enough on its application. So much story time. I don't want story time. I want facts and then what to do with those facts to improve my life

I learned the difference between probability and statistics. Believe it or not, that was a revelation!

Found randomly abandoned on the top of a fitted bookshelf at my new house which seems an appropriate way to come across it. Lots to think about and plenty applicable to daily life - not sure how happy people at work are with me saying things could come up heads a million times in a row

If you want to know what random means, and what its relation with your everyday life, just read this book. The "Drunkard's Walk" is a metaphor for the unpredictability of a succession of events. Mlodinow takes us from Probability to Pattern Avidity throughout a journey on the questions behind Chance, Accident and Randomness. This is not new for people versed in Math and Physics, but when you apply this to ordinary events, it shines light and explains a lot.
