The way that Claire Keegan can do more character development in under 50 pages than most authors can do in 300.

So impressive how much is achieved in every single word of this book. So tight!! The journey from meeting quite an inocuous seemingly decent man and then slowly revealing layers behind him and his

almost wife

was expertly constructed. There was a great mix of tension and deeply rich characters and quiet misoginy which grows louder with each chapter until we reach the end. Perfectly ending with a

lil sprinkling of heartbreak.
