I got this book for Christmas & delayed reading it until I read the first Dirk Gently book. It really wasn't necessary. This is a stand alone book and Dirk is the only character that is in both books (unless I missed something). Anyway, this was a super fun book to read. It made me laugh quite a few times. It is really fun to read a book that surprises you so often. I would have given this 5 stars except there were a few parts where I wasn't frantically turning pages. Still I'd say a definite 4.5.

Read this as it’s my dad’s favorite book. Worked much better for me than Hitchhiker’s Guide. I still don’t “get” that book, but Doug Adams’ writing skill is undeniable. One of the few people to pull off this humor/absurdity well.

Nowhere near as tightly written as the first one, it’s kind of a jumbled mess.

Sometimes I just love Douglas Adams. Sometimes he just write ok books - like this one...

Like with the first one, there are some very funny situations and descriptions. But as a whole, the story is a little disjointed and maybe too random.

I always manage to forget how utterly chaotic and nonsensical this story is. I think I enjoyed it more this time round than I did before.

True to his zany writing style, Adams does it again. Things always holistically come together and weird bits of story end up jiving in the end. Another Dirk Gently mystery solved.
