I'll confess right out front that I'm a Douglas Adams fanboy, so if you want to read a less doting review you should skip this one. This is my third read through of The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul and it's better every time. I have the pleasure of owning the audiobook read by the author.

The story is in my opinion another work of Adams' genius. It's clever, imaginative, funny, interesting and does all of the things that a good book should do. It hooks me from start to finish. Even on my third time through it still manages to surprise me. And all of the characters, including those who are just passers by, are interesting and enjoyable to read.

The Dirk Gently books are very good mysteries, but if you're reading for the first time I suggest that you don't bother trying to sort out the clues and solve the puzzle ahead of the reveal. If you're familiar with Adams you'll know that he is liable to have a whale suddenly pop into existence if it fits the absurdity of the moment and then only seconds later have it very suddenly splat back out of existence.

I can't criticise these books because I just have too much fun reading them. These are in my list of the books that I'll come back to again and again when I need something comforting to read.

Not bad, just less engaging than Adam’s other works. Not as satisfying of an ending. Wish we had a complete trilogy to judge off of.

Douglas Adams is a poor British man's Kurt Vonnegut.

Every scene with Dirk made me excited for the unpredictable hilarity that was bound to follow.
