The third and final (I think) in the Deanna Madden series. As with the first two, this was lots of fun.

You kinda have to suspend your disbelief slightly, and look past the initial pick-me-girl vibes to enjoy it, but the slightly over the top dramatism of it is what makes it so fun and compelling. This one took a slightly different tone to the previous two, some more crime drama elements that worked pretty well I think, and helped it to not feel repetitive despite following the same characters and set up throughout the series.

Deanna is an exciting character to follow, that Torre manages to add some depth to in order to make her feel a little more human. It's a good balance I think, and is what prevented the potentially cringy elements of Deanna as a character from becoming grating or annoying.

Mike was my favourite character especially in this one, and I would have liked to get more from him, although he did feel a little bit too convenient to the plot. Without getting into spoilers, he was at times used as a bit of a cheat way to get Deanna out of impossible situations, without needing to explain how he did it. Although tbf it's not the kind of thriller you read to take completely seriously for the realistic plot, you read it for a fun time, and it was definitely that.
