I really liked this one. It took me a minute to really get into it, and I would love to see some from Trent's point of view (just to have a better idea of who he is). I'm looking forward to more.

I really enjoyed this book. I would like Rhys to write more stories in this world, including more of Roku, Trent and Roku's dysfunctional family.

3.5 Stars

This was another hit and miss Rhys Ford book for me.
It was a really simple plot tied up in a heap of urban fantasy world building and over description.
I do enjoy Ford's knowledge of the oriental, but the first half of the story- four hours worth of audio just covered two days of the investigation! Roku was a pleasant character and I wanted to like Trent but I wasn't convinced by him or the whole instalove thing, or, for that matter his all too familiar/done to death backstory
Spoiler He was a spliced (half fae) orphan who was trained by a secret military organization and when a mission went wrong the unit was disbanded and he was suddenly a cop... without any further training!
The ending was unoriginal and I was left with the 'was that it?' feeling that I get when I am unsatisfied with a story.

The narration is top notch and I would give that five stars alone!

Huh... I'm not sure what happened here. From the blurb, this book has everything that I like and so this should have been a sure 5 star read, right? Turns out it wasn't. I often got lost while listening to the audiobook. I loved the concept of the story and the world building was great but there was too much going on and too many names/expressions I couldn't tell apart. Maybe I should have read the book (first) or maybe I just wasn't able to concentrate enough (I'm blaming the current heat wave in Europe!)

Also, we get only the beginning of the MCs budding relationship and I would have liked a bit more romance. Maybe if this were a series with the same MCs in the next book, what we got in the first book would have been okay.

I will give this one another chance at one time but for now, I have to settle for 3.5 stars.

Not my favorite of Rhys Ford, but a fun weekend read nonetheless.

It was cool imagining a magical San Francisco, and I would love to know more about Yukiko! It leaned pretty heavily on Asian stereotypes though, which is a weak point in the novel. I wish there had been space for the romance to unfold. I did appreciate the twist though because though it felt kind of obvious later, it definitely surprised me.

Perfect balance of mystery/rom suspense and urban fantasy. I loved the different fairy types and I really wish that Roku did have wings. As I have a thing for wings. I loved the complicated mix of cultures that Roku is a part of. As usual Rhys treats everything well and respectful for the varying cultures in the book.

I loved that similar to Cole, Roku is part Scottish and Japanese plus fae. I wish we had more time to see how Roku and Trents relationship developed beyond the case. I liked how well they meshed together. And I really want to know what Bob is.

This is probably one of ny favorites now and the audio is as usual fantastic and it really brings out the characters. Roku in angst and dead body level reminds me of Cole.

Awesome atmosphere; the setting is as much a character as any named human, fae, dragon, or cat.

Roku is a mess in Chucks and I love him.

I saw this tagged as a "cozy mystery" on another book aggregate site and feel like - look, if there are multiple scenes where characters cannot identify which body parts belong to which recently deceased persons, and if the first real talk with the beat partner is after the narrator is dragged puking out of a bar, the mystery stops being cozy. If I spend more than two pages, cumulative, hoping my boy's going to get a nap and something real to eat, it's not cozy.

Although the cat is cute.
