What a tremendous description of Israel from its inception to the modern-day. This was a very enjoyable read that gave me a lot to think about.

This was not as biased as I was expecting it to be, which was nice. Discovering that the author is now disgraced because he sexually harassed women. Less nice. The last chapter was also entirely too long and entirely too complicated. Overall, though, I do feel like I learned a lot.

A stirring reflection on the history of Israel and the Palestinians that helps put everything in perspective, from a left-wing peace-loving, Israel-loving Jew

A truly excellent book. I felt it was a good, reasonably in depth telling of modern Israel that goes beyond sound bites. I came away with a much deeper understanding of what's at stake in Israel and for Judaism as it relates to Israel. I felt that it was pretty clear eyed in the challenges Israel has faced and does face, as well as the atrocities committed by Israel to ensure their continued existence. A very good book for someone who wants to understand more about the conflict in the region from an Israeli perspective but doesn't know where to start.

I started reading the introduction then went to look up the author to see his response to today's conflict. That is when I found out that several women have charged him with sexual assault. Wish I had known this before getting the book out from the library.

Do not recommend supporting this author.
