I was skeptical of how this manga was taking everyone by storm recently, but I decided to order it from the library. I must say, I was surprised at how good it is.
I don't know, maybe it's just that I have a fondness for reading manga that has to do with manga, or maybe just the process of it... I loved the manga instantly. I also LOVED all the name and title-dropping that happens throughout the volume; it just makes me squeal when someone shines a light on pop culture or current trends or popular things of the time.. (He mentioned 'Naruto' and 'One Piece' OMG~!!!!! ) .. Ahem.
I love this manga, it's an awesome first volume; let's hope it doesn't become overrated like Death Note did.. Not that Death Note was that overrated but... there's something about it... anyways, this is about Bakuman; I love Bakuman now!!

Just utter trash. The most toxic and sexist messaging I have read in years, made me feel actually uncomfortable to read. The plot was also boring. I wouldn't go in the same room as the authors if you paid me.

Hier könnte ich mich wirklich ärgern. Ich hatte mir den Schuber gekauft, weil ich den Zeichenstil so toll fand und so viel gutes über die Reihe gehört hatte. Naja, da bin ich so richtig auf die Nase gefallen.
Der Zeichenstil ist wirklich toll. Ich mag die Gesichter und die Abwechslung in der Szenen. Man liest auch ziemlich lang an dem Manga und hat das Gefühl fast ein dünnes Buch gelesen zu haben. Leider war das aber sehr langweilig. Ich habe wirklich keine Ahnung, was anderen daran gefällt, aber ich fand es so dröge über den Wunsch zweier Jugendlicher Mangaka zu werden zu lesen. Dazu kam, dass die Charaktere auch eher unsympathisch wirkten. Zumindest der Hauptcharakter. Lediglich im letzten Viertel des Mangas wurde es besser und es kam endlich auch etwas Zwischenmenschliches auf. Ich hoffe, dass dies in den Folgebänden dann eine größere Rolle spielt und dieser erste Band einfach dazu genutzt wurde einem in das Mangaka-Thema genau einzuführen. Normalerweise würde ich nicht darüber nachdenken, dem zweiten Band eine Chance zu geben, aber da ich ihn ja nun leider schon besitze, werde ich dies tun.

The metafiction aspect is very cool. However, if you're not a 14-year-old boy with sexist views, you won't like this. The execution is so bad and the dialogue physically hurts to read.
If you are a 14y/o, please don't read this and choose inceldom at such an early age. Talk to people. Stop issuing toxic generalisations and don't put yourself down.

oké this will be my first manga review, so it probably will be terrible. I lent this manga from my sister, because it sounded interesting, a manga about two boys who want to make a manga. I really liked the story and the art is great too. The artist has amazing eye for detail and I love the background drawings. What I really like about the story is the fact that it gives me this feeling that pursuing your dreams is important and you can achieve anything you want. Althoguh they have to overcome some obstacles, the manga is pretty happy and uplifting. And oké I admit now, writing reviews about manga's is difficult. Not sure if I wil continue doing this :P.
