I'm not much of a romance reader, and if I do, they tend to be more rom-com than romance. But I picked this up since it was a 2024 AVID selection and it was pretty enjoyable! I didn't quite finish in time for the event (1 day shy!) but Jasmine was so lovely in person and listening to her in conversation with another author (Denise Williams) was so lovely that I'm bumping it up a little higher than I might otherwise. I'll be honest, I really liked the plot (a Black woman running a winery in (very white) Napa? And absolutely crushing it?) and would absolutely read it without the distraction of one man - sorry Luke.

Both of the main characters feel so juvenile. <Spoiler> The fact that the 3rd act conflict is due to a lack of communication and Margot feeling more entitled to discussion than she got made this feel like they're 18 year olds in their first fight

I really enjoyed the character development and subplots of this romance. I didn't quite enjoy the reason why they had to "fight/break up" towards the end, especially since the main reason they were a secret for the entire book made sense. This has pretty great relationship and character development.

Margot and Elliott run a winery in Napa that they inherited from their uncle. Luke has recently left his tech job in Silicon Valley, returning to Napa where he grew up and where his mother and female best friend still live, while he decides what's next for his career. In the meantime, he takes a job at the winery, unbeknownst to Margot until the morning after their supposed one night stand. Obviously, there's tension between them at the winery because of their undeniable chemistry. At the same time, they're both dealing with family and career issues. Margot is also concerned about being 5 years older than Luke. Of course, all the characters have flaws, but I thought the author developed some great family and friend relationships and Luke was a caring, romantic lead.

This is a very sweet love story. Margot is a part owner in Nobel Winery, along with her brother Elliot. Margot is a savvy business woman, yet because of a misunderstanding she constantly feels like she has to prove herself to her brother. The book starts with Margot walking to her friend’s bar/eatery after a grueling business trip. In walks Luke, he’s charming, but kind of nerdy, not Margot’s usual type, but they really hit it off. He’s just left his tech job in Silicone Valley because he was miserable and he wants to catch his breath before he decides what his next move is going to be. They end up at his place for a sex filled night. Unfortunately what Margot doesn’t know is Elliot hired Luke for the Winery’s tasting room and since Margot will actually be his boss they won’t be able to pursue the relationship any further. There is lots of sexual tension between the two that makes the book really hot.
