I'm not much of a romance reader, and if I do, they tend to be more rom-com than romance. But I picked this up since it was a 2024 AVID selection and it was pretty enjoyable! I didn't quite finish in time for the event (1 day shy!) but Jasmine was so lovely in person and listening to her in conversation with another author (Denise Williams) was so lovely that I'm bumping it up a little higher than I might otherwise. I'll be honest, I really liked the plot (a Black woman running a winery in (very white) Napa? And absolutely crushing it?) and would absolutely read it without the distraction of one man - sorry Luke.

I love Jasmine Guillory! This is on me for starting this then leaving it at home while I was at school then losing it during my move before I finally found it n finished the last 30% in the last few days 😅

I loved Margot and Luke and their dynamic — I appreciated Margot’s whole dynamic n need to prove herself to her brother, that felt very true of sibling and family relationships lol and the love story was fun! Sydney is prob my fave side character, I’d love to read her story! Or one about her and Margot just as best friends lol like more of that story! Some day perhaps!

TW: it does take place largely at a winery (Margot co owns it w her brother, Luke begins working there which is how they formally meet) so if you’re not down to read about wine n people drinking (mostly pleasant, there’s one drunk party guest but that’s mostly it) then maybe skip this one. <3

I really enjoyed the character development and subplots of this romance. I didn't quite enjoy the reason why they had to "fight/break up" towards the end, especially since the main reason they were a secret for the entire book made sense. This has pretty great relationship and character development.

Margot and Elliott run a winery in Napa that they inherited from their uncle. Luke has recently left his tech job in Silicon Valley, returning to Napa where he grew up and where his mother and female best friend still live, while he decides what's next for his career. In the meantime, he takes a job at the winery, unbeknownst to Margot until the morning after their supposed one night stand. Obviously, there's tension between them at the winery because of their undeniable chemistry. At the same time, they're both dealing with family and career issues. Margot is also concerned about being 5 years older than Luke. Of course, all the characters have flaws, but I thought the author developed some great family and friend relationships and Luke was a caring, romantic lead.

Not a bad book, it was just average! Low stakes conflict, a bit of an age gap…it was a good read if you want something quick and easy. I just wasn’t super invested. If you’ve read other Jasmine Guillory books there are some cameos and easter eggs that were fun.
