Read it because it was lauded as prescient about self-isolation. Meh.

Brilliant, prescient (published in 1909!) dystopian; the sleep of natural human interactions brings forth (technological) monsters indeed! Instant favorite.

I really, really liked this short story. I think this is one I will be re-reading. I wish this short story were novel length as I would have loved to really dive deep into this world and know more about the characters in it! (Namely, Kuno and "them" or the "homeless".) I would bet when this was written (in 1909!) people thought it sounded ridiculous. Oh, if they could only see us now -- glued to our technology and dependent on the ease of everything at our fingertips. Yikes! Forster may have been on to something...(Cue Twilight Zone music...)
