Read this in 5th and 9th grade. Didn't hate it, didn't really like it. Good regionalism, but I wasn't very interested by the plot.

It seems to me that this is just White Fang in reverse, starring Buck, a dog that I can somehow describe as a Gary Stu. The book is short but mostly dull, and is littered with unappealing caricatures.

I can't put my finger on why I loved White Fang but really didn't like Call of the Wild. Is there an element to this book that I'm missing? Maybe. Probably. In theory, I like the idea of dog-turned-wild better than wolf-turned-domestic. Oh well.
