I read it took 4 months to complete it.

I use cliff notes for any classics I was forced to read in school,

my reading resolution this year is to read one book in every state, so I can count it for Alaska I guess, work on on going series and read some classics,

I have no idea what is so great about this book, I read the positive reviews and I feel like we read two different books.

So I tried a classic, will try another I guess

I very much enjoyed this short and engaging read about a dog’s life in the Alaskan wilderness.
Buck’s relationship with his handlers and his own connection to his animal self was oddly relatable.
I found myself excited to see where the story went and cheering on Buck through each adventure.
I read this book aloud to my son during our nursing and cuddle times before nap. The language is descriptive and perfect for reading aloud.

Great ending but I felt the majority of this very short story is so monotonous and repetitive. Could see why kids might like to read about a dog that literally kills huskies, wolves, bears, moose, and even kills so many Yeehats that they make him an evil legend. Haven’t seen any movies of this but a true retelling would be gory as hell.

I liked The Call of the Wild. I loved the fact that the main character was the dog and the story was written from his point of view. Makes for a different and fascinating read.
In addition to The Call of the Wild, the book contains 3 other small stories about life in the Yukon.

A classic and beautiful example of descriptive language and articulate use of syntax. The harsh violence was hard for me to stomach and the implicit bias of the times will require discussion when read in the classroom. Not quite sure I resonate with the case for wild survival when juxtaposed with empathy and civilization itself. Worthy of so many questions- hard not to include in the cannon.

I thought it was pretty entertaining at times- but I had a hard time seeing the climax- it might have been towards the end. I didnt really feel close to the characters either.
