I read the book because I remember loving the movie as a kid. It is a book that evoked childhood memories while sharing with me parts of the story I don't remember ever hearing before. How is it that I own this single book and not the rest of the series? That is a problem that must soon be rectified.

As for the fact that it took me 5 days to a 190 page children's book, I can only say that I haven't been in a reading mood lately and this is the only one I kept going back to (even if it was only 1 page at a time for the first 4 days).

Possibly I read these books decades ago, but I have no memory of having done so. This is a good, solid, hero tale. If you're read and re-read Tolkein, as I have, this story seems to be pretty derivative, following The Hobbit, as it does, by 30 years. But it's well-told.

A fun book. My favorite thing about this book is the characters. It's nice to see Taran grow.
