This is the third and final book in the Liveship Traders trilogy and the sixth book in the overall RotE series and we continue to follow several characters, mostly from the same family (the Vestrits) with a few exceptions. This takes place in another part of the world - primarily Bingtown and we also get an added Rain Wild portion. As with the other books, it's full of feminism, pirates, dysfunctional families, political intrigue of a different kind than we had with Fitz and complex relationships of all kinds.
Every element I normally do in my breakdowns (writing, plot, characters and world building) is just phenomenal. Hobb's characters and world building in particular are some of the best I've read. It's not a simple act of reading these books, you live them.

I despised Malta in the beginning and truly thought there was nothing that could make me like this nasty little girl, but you know what? Her changed behavior made me like her and root for her.
I also loved the Liveships, both Paragon and Vivacia. My heart broke when Paragon asked Amber to make him a face someone could love.
I also found Althea’s arc truly heartbreaking. Abusers are loved by people. Their loved ones don’t want to believe they could do something that horrible. I felt the reactions around Althea were realistic, even though I wished everyone would believe her and turn on Kennit.
My main complaint was that I found Amber lacking as a character within this series. I have not read any other of Hobb’s books, so it made me feel her character within this series wasn’t fleshed out and her role not prominent. If she had a bigger part, I would’ve liked her character more.
