3 ⭐️ of the Russian classics I’ve read, this is definitely the weirdest. There are some iconic references that clearly come from this book, so I’m glad to have read it….but I think it was a bit too absurd for my taste (which I realize is kind of the whole point). So I’ll say that I liked it but didn’t really “get” it- worth noting that I listed to this on audio in Russian, so can’t comment on this translation

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fun read with some twists and turns, a dark and dry humour notorious of Russian writers, and some magical realism to hold it all together. I now refer to my cat, Bagheera, as Behemoth just for the fun of it. I have also come to enjoy the tv series "A Young Doctor's Notebook" starring Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe based off of some of Bulgakov's short stories.

Understood about half of what was going on, but a hell of a ride!

5 ⭐️ for the first part

the second part was a little to .. crazy for me I think hahah and the racism threw me off a lot

cris's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH: 29%

there's too many people in this book, also it's a bit too absurd, idk

This is one of the most overrated books I have ever read.
