Clare abruptly breaks off her wedding with Zach and meets a stranger, Edith, on the same day. Only to find out days later that Edith has died and left her “the Blue Sky House.” Clare and her best boy friend Dev unravel the mystery of Edith. A compelling family story of love, sacrifice, courage and faith.

What a wonderful story this was! Edith's story was so beautifully written--especially the imagery of being in the salt marshes. I loved seeing the growth of Clare also. Even with the twists and turns this book took, it is the kind of book I wouldn't mind reading again.

I didn't realize this book was part of a trilogy. It's been several years since I've read Love Walked In and Belong to Me. As soon as Clare started describing Cordelia, I knew that I knew her. The writing style is a bit more lofty and formal in this book but the story has so much heart and you just fall more in love with Edith page after page. Marisa de los Santos might need to write more about Clare and Dev just so we can revisit with her entire family once again.

Easy, enjoyable read. A bit predictable, but in the best way.

This story grabbed me from the beginning and the writing is truly spectacular. I did lose a little steam about 3/4 of the way through. It seemed to drag on just a touch longer than I was expecting but the twist was worth it. Recommend!

My experience with Marisa de los Santos' books is that they address painful topics but are still deeply comforting. This is the same- its a wide ranging story with many threads that all end up tied up by the end. Perhaps I could feel her "research" into domestic violence pop up underneath but the imagery and the characters make this much more than a "issue of the week" novel.

Ah Clare....love her, love Marisa’s books...this one is no exception.

Edith is a young wife and nurse in the early 1950s. Her house becomes a safe haven for battered women on an underground railroad of sorts. Clare is a modern young woman about to marry the wrong young man. Edith's and Clare's lives intersect in a mysterious way. Apparently some of the characters in this story are revisited from earlier De Los Santos novels. Even though I've read and enjoyed De Los Santos' other novels, I have no clue which characters are revisited. This is a sweet novel to enjoy by the fireplace or at the beach.
