Absolutely incredible. A glorious ending to the series. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
Time to rant...
You fucking killed Egweane, but you let Rand live? Wtf?
Actually, that's my only rant. The book was fucking great.
Though, I could have used some more closure with some characters... like Gallad, we left him during a very tense time and never heard from him again. Maybe he would have wanted to see Rand on his "deathbed"? Or maybe he would have gone to Rand's funeral? They were brothers, after all...
Oh, and Gawyn's death, GAH, seriously, he overcame that character flaw in a previous book, why did he suddenly backslide??? There was no reason for him not to tell Egweane about those Seanchan weapon things he was using. And there was no reason for him to use them in the first place. And there was no reason for him to go try to kill Demodred on his own, fucking idiot. Also, why was Demodred so hard to kill? Both Gawyn and Gallad failed, then Logain failed, and yet somehow Lan managed to kill him.
The whole thing with Padan Fain felt tacked on, I'd completely forgotten about that guy, and then he shows up in the last 5% of the book and dies pretty quickly. Lame.
Honestly, this book was exhausting, I feel like I just went to war. All my friends are dead. Well, a surprising number of them are still alive, but still. Swan Sanchez (lol who the hell knows how to spell that name >___>), her death was terribly unsatisfying. Just as unsatisfying as Brigitta's was, if she hadn't come back to life like one chapter later. Swan definitely deserved a better death--an on-screen death, at least! Fuck
What else.
I don't know. This book was over 40 hours long, but it still felt a bit rushed. There were way too many loose ends lying around to tie up neatly.
And fuck, I'm really mad that Rand lived. It would have been better if he hadn't.
And i think i missed something, how exactly did he switch bodies with Moradin...? And why...? What was wrong with his own body...?
And speaking of Moradin, lol who was he, exactly? I got really confused, because i thought Moradin and Demodred were the same person...but clearly they weren't. So Rand's whole "fight" was confusing to me, but that's less a fault of the book and more a fault of mine for zoning out too many times during this series.
Gah.
Anyway, that ending was way less epic than I thought it'd be. But whatever, still a fun book. I'm sad it's over, gotta go find some new friends now...
