Because I try really hard not to reveal spoilers this is a very hard review to write. I have loved this series from the first chapter of the first book SOME GIRLS BITE. I love that Chloe has added in all these little hints that tell you of things to come and things to look forward to. This is definitely not a series that you can pick up at any book but book 1 so if you have not started the Chicagoland Vampires series yet I would highly recommend starting from the beginning.

As all you fans know there was a HUGE devastating cliff hanger at the end of HARD BITTEN. Hopefully you didn't hold that against the series because DRINK DEEP totally makes up for the absence of Ethan. Will you miss him? Of Course. But the story still rocks. I found the pacing to be slower then previous installments but there is a lot of action and detective work mixed in to everything. We see a lot of Jonah and don't worry all you loyal Ethan fans it isn't bad as you might be thinking. I actually really enjoyed seeing Merit become closer friends with someone outside the house or someone in her normal circle. There were so many surprises and major things that happened in DRINK DEEP that I will end this review with, you really have to read it. All you people that said you were going to stop reading after HARD BITTEN will be extremely disappointing if you don't snag a copy.

Political problems continue to escalate for Chicago "sups." Merit continues to challenge structural hierarchies to an apt "Rage Against the Machine" soundtrack (no kidding - they are her go-to band in this and other books). And, as usual, Neill delivers a healthy dose of Chicago food, geography, and culture.

This installment in the series felt disorganized, disorienting. However, that atmosphere fits with the chaos Cadogan House is experiencing during its transition period. Still, some things were just.. weird. Like Tate suddenly acting all Hannibal Lecter and calling Merit "Ballerina." I get trying to convey that the mask is off and he's more than meets the eye, but new evil(?) genius Tate is going to take some getting used to.

Finally, I am SO hoping the next book is a vampire road trip (fingers crossed so hard).

Well I did kind of suspect but I sure as heck did not see that coming!!

Things are heating up in Chicago and Merit is right smack dab in the middle of it all and not by her choice.

I really like the new relationships she is making, I don’t think she is moving on per say I think she is living on as he would have wanted.

Again I am loving the narration.

Chloe Neill has a talent for pulling the rug out from underneath the reader's feet. I approached Drink Deep with a mixture of trepidation and gleeful anticipation, both feelings driven by some of the angsty reviews I had seen of the book. And though Drink Deep didn't make me angry enough to throw the book across the room, the ending was pretty strange and despite a seemingly neat conclusion, I suspect there are more twists to come.

And this is where I'll stop reading this series.

I read this book while half a sleep and was able to stay that way until about the last 10 pages.
I have to say after book four i don't trust the author anymore which may have skewed my rating of the book.

Eh, I felt yanked around by this one. I like the premise of the story, but Chloe Neill failed to satisfy me
Spoilerwith the explanation of Ethan coming back to life
after the surprise at the end of the last volume. I also saw the culprit from the very beginning of the book (which rarely happens with me, since I'm not usually that interested in "solving" the mysteries right away. I hope that the next volume(s) will be more satisfying, especially in terms of portraying Merit's friendship with Mallory, which I think is one of the biggest possible strengths of this series.

This one is the one that broke the camel's back, so to speak. The author had a chance to not have a predictable antagonist, a forced romance, and flat characters. But alas, we got more of the same ol'. Even ending 90% of the chapters with Merit going to sleep and starting the next with her waking up. Really?!? The end, oh the end! Well it just sealed the deal. This was the last one I'll read in the series. Sorry, Merit, I'm done with your rather lame and predictable antics.

So far I have enjoyed the Chicagoland Vampire series. I was heart broken after Hard Bitten. The ending made me very skeptical to keep continuing the series. It actually took me a couple days to decide if I should continue or not and I' glad I did. The author did not disappoint me. I will say that the very end of the book is where the good parts are and I wish she could of elaborated more. Over all I was shocked and happy with this book and can't wait to read Biting Cold!!!

So that happened. I'm interested in what happens next but this one took me a little bit to get through. The writing seems to repeat itself and reading the same phrases over and over can get tiring. In the last few books, they make references to Buffy, in this one I noticed some resemblances, besides the obvious vampire thing. Not sure if that's a good thing.
