I have to provide thanks to my best friend who hoisted this series upon me knowing fully well that I had other items on my to read agenda! LK I love you for that as I am grossly enamored with Chicagoland Vampires! While this book was an emotional roller coaster for me, I cannot wait for the next book to be released. I was distraught at the thought that Ethan, my dream vampire, was gone for good and I believe I grieved as much as Merit did. I reeled at the thought that I would never be able to picture him in my mind as I read about him when the last book ended. Chloe Neill made it up to me and returned my knight to heal my heart! Merit is loyalty personified and it makes me proud of the vampire she's become. She is continually willing to write her own rules when it comes to the safety of Cadogan House or its vampires. And while her heart was shattering over the death of Ethan she marched on. Even while she was betrayed by her best friend she marches on. She showed that even without Ethan by her side she could stand up to the bigotry and do the right thing. Her courage, her strength, her loyalty, her unparalleled goodness is a prime example of why she is titled, Sentinel of Cadogan House.

I think I'm done with this series. I absolutely loved the first book, the second and third books were ok, the fourth pissed me off, and this one was just boring. I was impressed that Neill was able to elicit strong feelings in me with Hard Bitten. Granted it was hatred, but, still. Drink Deep, on the other hand, was just blah blah blah boring boring. And what happened to Merit? She used to be funny and sassy and not TSTL. I don't know, I'm just, whatever.

Really wanting to love this series, but I’m finding it so difficult at times to see much of anything I care enough about to continue reading.

The pacing and the entire series really is so uneven. There’s a lack of enough information about the magic system and all of the various supernaturals. I do understand that some of that is intentional because our heroine is new to the supernatural world and doesn’t know a whole lot about it, but there’s not much of a foundation to build upon with the magic and supernatural elements in this world, so anything new that come around is shaky.

At times, I found myself invested and interested in the goings on of these characters but there’s also plenty of times I’m left confused and uncaring about anything in this series.

I’m taking a break before even attempting to jump into the next book, but I may never return to this series.

This book was better than the last one, but I thought that the ending was almost as bad as Ethan dying!! What about Jonah? And what about Merit's grief?
And it was truly predictable that Mallory was behind the black magic in Chicago... I don't see why Merit and Catcher didn't realize this a lot sooner. Merit had a better excuse than Catcher though, having to deal with Frank and his stupid rules for trying to dissolve Cadogan House.
The chase after Tate, the nymphs, and other supernaturals were a total goose-chase, and really, it made my reading experience less good!

I am not at all a happy camper! The first three books were amazing, but then, the next two really weren't.

I can still not understand WHY Ethan had to die at the end of the last book.
And it was a stupid way to make him 'come back' it made a lot of things happening seem like plot devices - not really necessary for the story to move forward!
And yes, it was good to see that Merit could do things on her own, but then again, she had Jonah as her new partner, and they were able to help each other out. Jonah is a stand-up, yummy vampire, and he deserves to be number one in someone's life! Merit obviously won't be able to give him that.
Also, I totally abhorr love-triangles! And I don't see how there won't be one in the coming books! Jonah is in love with Merit, and Merit obviously has feelings for him! And they do have a connection. However, with Ethan back, of course Merit will be with him.

I can't say I'm not disappointed... There were a lot of different ways this same story could have unfolded - without some of the really bad drama that happened.

1. Some Girls Bite - 3 stars
2. Friday Night Bites - 3.5 stars
3. Twice Bitten - 4 stars
4. Hard Bitten - 4 stars
5. Drink Deep - 4 stars

I just reread the first 5 books in the series so I figured I would do a summary review of all 5. I was conflicted during my rereads of these books. On one hand, the plot is intriguing but there are definitely some things that are constantly annoying.

For the first couple books Merit constantly throws it into Ethan's face that he changed her into a vampire without her consent. While I get that's a valid point, they've talked about how it was either that or let her die several times and I don't understand why it needs to be constantly brought up. Another major issue I had with these books is how everything little issue seems to be Merit's fault. Merit is far from perfect but she is not the cause of every problem and I felt like she shouldn't have had to apologize for half the things she has so far in the series. There were a few other things that were specific to each book but I'm not going to get into those because they could be considered spoilers.

Despite those things, I'm interested in what's going on around Merit and the rest of the Chicago vampires. I will definitely be continuing the series!

I like this series but I do not love it. I have given it 4 stars but its really more of a 3.5 in my opinion. I have continued to read this story because I am just enough interested with the story to want ot know how it ends. Basically everything about this is just alright for me the characters are good not great, the story is fairly interesting and the writing is decent. It is in no way bad but it is not one of my favorites either.

Interested to see what happens next. Liked the new twist at the end of the book.

I'm so flipping ready for August to get here!!

I just had to mention how much I enjoyed Merit and Mallory's friendship, didn't I? This is why we can't have nice things.

Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ.

I only asked for 5 things when I finished book 4, let's remember them, shall we?:

1. An explanation.
2. No coming back with amnesia or some shit like that, I use a kindle, throwing books out the window is a far more expensive outlet now.
3. Merit finally realising that it was Morgan that was sent by Celina to kill her, before Ethan rescued her.
4. More sexy fun naked times. Talk about a frustrating fourth book.
5. Shifters, shifters, shifters.

1. I can live with what I got. But just because Mallory was a Buffy fan, it does not mean he has to follow Willows character development, because with all do respect Ms Neill, you are no Joss Whedon.
2. Fine.
3. Arrrghhhh.
4. Arrrrghhh. We do no read this books to get hints! Get descriptive woman!
5. And last but not least, the more infuriating one, why go through all the trouble of getting the shifters to stay and then not call them??? Specially when you called them because McKetrick block your way with his SUVs, but GOD FORBID you'd call them for, I don't know, THE END OF THE FUCKING WORLD.

Still, I will say this, the action in this book is seriously improved from all the ones before. I actually wanted to know what was going on.
