This was a really interesting and different series! I would say it is steampunk meets six of crows meets dragons. I loved the worldbuilding and the lead characters, they were very interesting and had me invested from the start. The science/mechanical aspects were so much fun to picture and read!
For me though, I can't give more than 4 stars because I guessed too much and because I found it a little cliché at times.
However it was a very good first installment into the series and I look forward to continuing it!

I really loved this. I think I will write an actual review once I process everything.
3.5 stars
Chimera! Dragons! Tyranny!
Multiple pov, some characters more interesting than others, but all contributing to the story well enough. I'm interested enough for book 2.

Exciting and riveting
Exciting adventure, a unique set of worlds and creatures and sewn all together with magic and steampunk elements. Loved the world building in this as much as the character building and seeing how each of the characters grows and changes as the story flows. Wonderfully well written!

This was a thrilling read set in a very unique world. It kept me on my toes, keeping up with the various guilds and peoples encountered on the fast-paced journey through Loom. The central group is an intriguing bunch, each with their own secrets, and it quickly becomes apparent that there is more to each of them than meets the eye. The ending was quite the set up, and I'm curious to see what happens next.
I'm sorry. I know there is a lot of hype about this book and the soon to be released sequel, but I couldn't get into it. The writing was amazing and the story had promise, but the characters didn't resonate with me. I didn't feel that longing for them. For them to fall in love and to overthrow the dragon king. Maybe its that I'm not into dragons right now, or that I was slightly annoyed by the people who were reading the audio book version. I don't know. It wasn't for me. Maybe it will be for you. Three stars for The Alchemists of Loom.

I am disappointed. With myself, with the book, with both? Who knows. I really wanted to love this book but it just…. Didn’t give me what I wanted? Arianna is a thief that goes by the name of the White Wraith, living on Loom and hating the dragons who rule from the sky world of Nova when one day she stumbles upon an injured dragon who offers her a boon if she helps him. The story is basically both trying to come to terms with the truths about their two worlds rather than the propaganda/hatred about the others cultures that they’ve learned. That sounds bland, but it isn’t, I especially loved meeting the Ravens and the high speed race along the tunnels. It was packed with action but…. I’m not sure what it was. It was good and I enjoyed it but I was expecting amazing and it just didn’t live up to that. Also, did the dragons really need rainbow trails? It was a serious book in every other aspect but whenever that got mentioned I was just like ?? Why??

On this new world crafted by the creator of the Air Awakens series, aka Elise Kova, we get to meet and follow a new and different story full of blood, many settings and interesting characters. We get to meet Arianna, Florence, Cvareh and many other characters that give the story good (but not surprising) twists, but sadly, they weren’t enough to win my attention or excitement. The first time I heard about this book I actually thought I would enjoy it because it sounded dark, different and powerful, but I was like a 76% wrong. Yes, it was dark and different, but it wasn’t powerful enough to keep my attention on it, that’s why it took me almost three months to finish it! No, I’m not joking, it did take me three months to finish this and in the end, I thought things would get better and far more interesting, but take a guess…they didn’t (at least, not enough).
Once again, Elise Kova’s writing was great, but the pace was not. I felt like things on this book took forever to happen but oh well, that happens. The setting was big and diverse, but I didn’t found anything memorable about it—except for the underground tunnels, I loved them and what hides in them.
Throughout our main character’s journey to the Alchemists Guild, we get to meet some very important characters that either want to help them, or kill them. We get to meet Leona, the dragon King, Petra, Camile, Andre, Helen, Will, Sybil, Sophie and others, who make this story interesting on their own way, and bloody. I personally enjoyed Cvareh and Flor’s characters and the way they managed to bring different sides of Arianna into the light. But besides them, I found the rest of the cast "okay". Didn't fully hate them. Didn't fully love/enjoyed them.
In the end, “The Alchemists of Loom” wasn’t as great as I hoped it would be and it made me dread my way through it. I found that the pace of the story didn’t help at all, and even though the characters were "okay", the story was boring and forgettable and this book just…didn’t work as well as I wanted it to with me.
But still, just because I didn't enjoy it doesn't mean you won't either so don't be afraid to give it a try!
