Love this book. Read it after the Disney movie came out and really enjoyed the differences between the movie and the book.
"The members of the legendary band Lemonade Mouth have been called all of these things. But until now, nobody's known the inside story of how this powerhouse band came to be. How five outcasts in Opoquonsett High School's freshman class found each other, found the music, and went on to change both rock and roll and high school as we know it. Wen, Stella, Charlie, Olivia, and Mo take us back to that fateful detention where a dentist's jingle, a teacher's coughing fit, and a beat-up ukelele gave birth to Rhode Island's most influential band. Told in each of their five voices and compiled by Opoquonsett's "scene queen," freshman Naomi Fishmeier, this anthology is their definitive history."

I first watched the Disney Channel movie and became obsessed with Lemonade Mouth. After learning it was a book, I knew I needed to read it. Fast forward a few years, and here I am.
I knew the two were going to be different, I just had no idea HOW different until diving in. I loved the fact that the instruments were unconventional and yet they still made music that caught people's attentions. A trumpet, ukulele, bongos, and a bass? Like, wow! And the lyrics were quite good! I loved the little bit of Skinny Nancy that we got! I think it would have been cool to see some of these songs in the movie, they could have been brought to life so beautifully!
I loved that Scott didn't end up in the band. Hated that in the movie. Loved that Wen and Oliva got a bit more of a romantic line in the book.
There were a few things I was a little meh about. Some of the characters fell a little flat for me. There were times I felt the multiple POV went a little crazy.
Overall, I enjoyed this one!

I saw the movie before I read the book which unfortunately may have influenced how I feel about the book. I thought it was decent but I wasn't really able to connect to it like I did with the movie. Maybe I'll connect more with the second book. I did really like the lyrics shown in the book because they are deeper and more meaningful than the ones from the movie and fit better with what Lemonade Mouth is supposed to be.
I absolutely adored this book. I read it maybe two years ago and still think back to it. So many books glamorize their characters and their settings, especially in middle and high school themed books. I appreciated the real and diverse set of characters created in this book, from race to size to ability. I honestly love it and made me yearn for something that could to make me feel complete.

Not at all the sort of book I would have picked up on purpose, but I ended up really liking it. As one of those who used to be in the lower echelons of high-school society, it struck a couple of chords.
Got a little annoyed about the friend-zone miracle, but whatcha gonna do.

You ever watch a movie, only to discover that it’s based on a novel? I was one of the many that watched Disney Channel’s adaptation of Lemonade Mouth, and I was surprised to discover not that long ago that there was a young adult novel written about four years prior.
Lemonade Mouth is the story of five unlikely kids who form a band after having an impromptu rock session in the middle of detention. Both the movie and novel follow the same basic premise. The movie brings them together quicker, streamlining the process without damaging the relationships. The novel lets us get inside the heads of Olivia, Charlie, Stella, Wen, and Mo.
... and I liked the movie better.
I don’t know if it was the constantly changing viewpoints or the fact I’ve seen the movie about ten times, but something didn’t click with me. Everyone came off harsher, for lack of a better word. Stella is rude to everyone in her world. Olivia is practically silent, even when the floor is open to her. Charlie’s parts are hard to read, and are slow besides. As for Wen, he comes off as a hothead, even though I know he’s not supposed to, and his “lust” for Sydney is outright creepy. I still liked Mo, but even she is shallow, and it really bothers me how blind she is, for such a smart girl.
I loved the movie so much, and the music has been helping me through these troubled times. But for some reason, I never got the same spark from the novel. And I’m really sad about that. Just something didn’t work for me, and it very much kept me from even remotely enjoying the story.
