Let me just say that this book was well done, but it was NOT for me.
Rachel's entire life has been shaped by her whirlwind romance when she was 17 and on holiday with a much older man, and the events that transpired during her time on the island. She's been fixated on that time in her life since it occurred, and as her "real life" becomes more lost to her, her obsession grows. Was it all really as beautiful and golden as she remembers it?
Katie Bishop does an incredible job of describing how unstoppable one feels at that nearly-adult age, how all-consuming love can be then and how it feels as though no one outside of your little "bubble" can understand. But the underlying darkness made me feel so... ill throughout, that I would struggle to really say that I enjoyed this book. Rachel is emotionally stunted by the events that she lived through, unable to realize exactly what happened to and around her, and that was a tough pill to swallow.
